Key challenge this project addressed

Foreign Object Debris (FOD) costs the aviation industry $13 billion per year in direct and indirect costs. For major US airlines, this amounts to $26 per flight in aircraft repairs plus $312 in additional indirect costs including flight delays, plane changes, and fuel inefficiencies.

As one of the most tightly regulated industries in the world, aerospace manufacturers must properly maintain and track inventory, Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) tools, equipment, and assets.

CribMaster needed an ultra-high accuracy RFID solution capable of detecting every tool (up to 500) in a standard RFID cabinet in seconds. PervasID's unique RFID technology provides real-time accuracy of up to 99.9%, offering far greater accuracy, range, and speed than any other RFID readers on the market.

‍

By teaming up with PervasID, CribMaster introduced a new generation of the popular Accu line of FOD control and tool tracking solutions that offers the following benefits:

‍

▪ Track every tool, including sockets and other small or easily misplaced items

▪ Hold workers accountable for tools issued to them

▪ Reduce time and energy spent searching for unreturned tools

▪ Avoid costly regulatory fines and contractual penalties for noncompliance

▪ Increase the safety of products being developed

How PervasID technology solved the challenge

Enabled by PervasID's high-performance RFID technology, the CribMaster Accu line features several automated layers:

▪ RFID tags are affixed to or embedded in tools

▪ PervasID Readers incorporated into CribMaster secure RFID cabinets instantly log each transaction

▪ Automatic, scheduled reports notify supervisors of tools that have not been returned, and who has them checked out

▪ All components run on CribMaster's industry-leading inventory management platform that records every transaction in a single, global database

Measurable results and business outcomes

Kelly Musselwhite, President of CribMaster, said: "CribMaster's Accu line streamlines the process of monitoring, managing and maintaining tools and the need for handwritten paperwork, eliminating the risk of human error."

"With our Accu line, CribMaster's Inventory Management System software records in real-time when an item is taken, who takes it, and when it is returned," added Musselwhite. "This creates user accountability and provides the information needed to take corrective action if a tool is accidentally misplaced or lost."

"In the aerospace industry, accountability for every tool is critical," concluded Musselwhite. "Our positive tool control technology addresses this concern directly. For example, the PervasID enabled AccuDrawer reads the RFID tag on a tool, which guarantees the tool is in the cabinet, and not left behind on the aircraft."
